Mamadou

Mamadou of Mauritania
19” x 24”, Pastel on paper, Framed, museum quality
$575
Mamadou was a graduate student at CSU, Chico, and was from Mauritania. He agreed to sit for his portrait when I asked. Unsure of what a portrait was, he asked me, “Is it a picture of only my outsides?” Quite astute, I thought. After graduation he could not return to his country because his family and tribe were persecuted and murdered. As far as I know, he is still in the U.S., married and working.

This is the first portrait that Mamadou sat for. It was done on the CSU, Chico campus when he was a graduate student in the College of Agriculture and Human Environmental Sciences.
