The world as I see it is expressed through my portraits, California landscapes, still lifes, and illustrations. My media of choice are oil, watercolor and acrylic, colored pencil, graphite and pastels. Known for my pastels and portraits, I teach creative pastel and portrait workshops. I was inspired to draw and paint what I saw at a young age. Though my professional life was in the realm of business, I remained true to my artistic vision by teaching evening adult art classes. Now a full-time artist, my finest challenges are inspiring others, capturing the spirit of a subject or place, and creating a treasure to be enjoyed for generations. I also feel strongly about partnering with other artists and organizations, using art to further the common good. My paintings have received awards in national and international juried shows over the past 20 years. I am a juried member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club based in the National Arts Club in New York City, a juried signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and the International Association of Pastel Societies, a charter member of the Portrait Society of America, Inc., supporting member of the Paradise and Chico Art Centers and a Supporting Member of the Red Bluff Art Gallery. Public commissions include The Order of the Eastern Star and the University of California, Berkeley. My paintings have been published in The Pastel Journal, The Artist's Magazine, Art Calendar Magazine, Encyclopedia of Living Artists, and the North Light Book Club catalog. In 2007, I was chosen as one of seven artists to illustrate the Paradise Chocolate Festival Cook Book. The book won two national awards for creative design combining fine art and chocolate recipes. Proceeds from the sale of the book and my chocolate paintings support the Boys and Girls Club. I consider myself a self-motivated artist rather than self-taught. American masters with whom I have studied include: Portrait Artists Daniel E. Greene and John Howard Sanden, San Francisco figurative artist, Bob Gerbracht, Distinguished Pastelist, Anita Wolff, National Watercolor Society Gold Medal winner, Salvatore Casa, and nationally recognized artist/educator, Eddy Martinez Hood. I continue to study the works of past masters and contemporary artists that inspire and inform my creative vision. You are invited to come along on the journey and see things through my eyes.
